Dr Chris Ashwin   Bath University

  • I completed a B.A. (honours) in Psychology at the University of Windsor in Windsor, Ontario, Canada
  • My early work involved computer models of brain activity in autism and other psychiatric disorders, as well as clinical work including intensive behavioural therapy with preschool children with autism
  • I completed a PhD at the University of Cambridge where my thesis was 'The Amygdala Theory of Autism'
  • I am investigating the amygdala theory of autism in adults with and without autism/AS, as well as children with autism/AS and normally developing children
  • My research work involves 3 broad areas of investigation:
    1. fMRI studies of social-emotional processing in participants with and without autism/AS
    2. Computer-based behavioural tasks of social-emotional information processing in participants with and without autism/AS
    3. GSR measures during social-emotional perception in participants with and without autism/AS
  • I hope to supplement this research in the future with investigations looking at the cognitive strategies and mechanisms that people with autism and AS employ when processing social-emotional information and during social situations, because I believe it is very important to investigate the disorders of autism and AS from all perspectives and levels to get the full understanding of the dysfunctions involved
